Their Royal Highnesses pay tribute to BBC World Service

Published

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have visited BBC World Service in their 90th year to hear how they are continuing to report in Ukraine, Russia and Afghanistan.

During the engagement, Their Royal Highnesses paid a visit to the BBC News Pashto studio to meet some of the team preparing for a live broadcast. Haroon Rahman, Head of Monitoring for BBC Afghan, told The Prince and The Duchess how he was evacuated from the country and took refuge in Britain.

Their Royal Highnesses also met representatives of BBC News Ukraine and BBC News Russian to find out how their news operations continue. Joining a live link-up with reporters currently situated in Kyiv and Moscow, The Prince sent his best wishes to the people of Ukraine.

Before departing, The Prince of Wales said:

I know just how much it must take for many of those who are broadcasting in the most difficult of circumstances. But also what it takes in order to make sure that people do have access to the impartial truth, and particularly in conflict situations. So I’m full of admiration, for what it’s worth, for everything you do and your colleagues on the ground, and those of you who have had to escape from other countries, all too frequently nowadays, from all this depressing amount of conflict around the world – so thank you for all the efforts you make.
