The Queen disembarked from HMY BRITANNIA this morning at Brodick Pier, Isle of Arran, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Ayr and Arran (Major Richard Henderson) and the Chairman, Caledonian MacBrayne (Rear Admiral Neil Rankin). Her Majesty drove to Ormidale Park and was received by the President, Brodick Highland Games (Mr. Stewart Lambie) and the Chairman, Arran Sports Association (Mr. Alastair Dobson). The Queen viewed the new pavilion before opening Ormidale Park and, escorted by the Honorary President, Brodick Highland Games (the Lady Jean Fforde), subsequently met those connected with the Park and watched Highland Games. Her Majesty was entertained to Luncheon at Brodick Castle this afternoon by Councillor George Steven (Convener, North Ayrshire District Council). Later The Queen opened the new Visitor Centre at the Isle of Arran Distillers and was received by the Chairman (Mr. Harold Currie). Her Majesty toured the Centre and part of the distilling area. The Queen afterwards returned to the Royal Yacht at Lochranza Pier.
The Queen this afternoon travelled to Portsmouth and, having been received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Mrs. Christopher Fagan) and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth (Councillor Anthony Golds), embarked in HMY BRITANNIA and, escorted by HMS CAMPBELTOWN (Captain Alan Massey RN), sailed for Scotland. The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, Outward Bound Trust, today visited the Outward Bound Centre, Ullswater, Cumbria. Sir Michael Marshall (Deputy Lieutenant of West Sussex) was present at Gatwick Airport, London, this afternoon upon the Arrival of the Governor-General of Jamaica and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of The Queen.
Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi) visited The Queen this morning. His Excellency Mr. Love Mtesa and Mrs. Mtesa were received in farewell audience by Her Majesty and took leave upon His Excellency relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for the Republic of Zambia in London. The Governor and the Chief Minister of Montserrat were received by The Queen. His Excellency the Hon. William Crowe, Jr. and Mrs. Crowe were received in farewell audience by Her Majesty and took leave upon His Excellency relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the United States of America to the Court of St. James's.
Mrs. Michael Gordon-Lennox has succeeded the Lady Angela Oswald as Lady in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
The Lady Susan Hussey has succeeded Mrs. Christian Adams as Lady in Waiting to The Queen.
The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has been pleased to appoint Lieutenant Commander Richard Tarran, Royal Navy, to be Equerry to His Royal Highness in succession to Lieutenant Colonel Charles Richards, Welsh Guards, who relinquishes the appointment on completion of his tour of duty. The Duke of Gloucester, accompanied by The Duchess of Gloucester, this evening took the Salute at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh Castle.
The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Anglian Regiment, today visited the 1st Battalion at Oakington Barracks, Longstanton, Cambridgeshire, in celebration of Minden Day.
