The Duke of Gloucester, Patron, the Royal Pioneer Corps Association, this morning received Brigadier John Hickman upon relinquishing his appointment as President and Brigadier Charles Telfer upon assuming the appointment. The King and Queen of Tonga visited The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester this afternoon.

The Princess Royal this morning visited Dingwall Academy, Dingwall, Ross-shire, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty (Mrs. Christopher Bowen). Her Royal Highness later presented The Queen's Award for Enterprise to Keltic Seafare (Scotland) Limited during their Twentieth Anniversary Year, Unit 6, Strathpeffer Road Industrial Estate, Dingwall. The Princess Royal, Patron, the Whitley Fund for Nature, this evening attended a Talk and Dinner at the Royal Geographical Society, One Kensington Gore, London SW7.

The Countess of Wessex, President, Move Europe, this morning visited the Farnley Academy, Chapel Lane, Leeds, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire (Dr. Ingrid Roscoe). Her Royal Highness, Patron, afterwards opened the Caring for Life Nurseries at Caring for Life, Crag House Farm, Otley Old Road, Cookridge, Leeds. The Countess of Wessex, Patron, this afternoon opened the Children's Intensive Care Unit at Leeds Children's Hospital, Great George Street, Leeds.

The Duke of York today carried out the following engagements in Tokyo, Japan. His Royal Highness this morning attended the Royal United Services Institute and Sasakawa Peace Foundation Conference at Hotel Okura. The Duke of York this afternoon called upon The Crown Prince of Japan at Akasaka Palace. His Royal Highness later visited the offices of Japan Rail Central Shinkansen. The Duke of York this evening attended a Dinner given by Her Majesty's Ambassador to Japan (His Excellency Mr. Timothy Hitchens) at the Residence.

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, Patron, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, this morning received Mr. Peter Titley (President) and Mr. Robert Havard (Managing Director). His Royal Highness afterwards held a Meeting to discuss rural skills.

The Queen this morning officially opened The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the International School of Aberdeen, Pitfodels House, North Deeside Road, Aberdeen, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Aberdeen (Councillor George Adam, the Lord Provost), the Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council (Mrs. Valerie Watts) and the School Director (Dr. Daniel Hovde). Her Majesty, escorted by the School Director, toured classrooms and the Sports Hall, meeting students and members of staff, and viewed a performance in the Theatre. The Queen afterwards officially opened the National Health Service Grampian Emergency Care Centre, Foresterhill Campus, Aberdeen, and was received by the Chairman (Councillor B. Howatson and Mr. Richard Carey (Chief Executive). Her Majesty, escorted by Mr. Jonathan Lofthouse (General Manager, Acute Sector) visited the Oncology and Haematology Unit, the computerised tomography scanning room and the Emergency Department, meeting patients and members of staff, and was briefed on the future plans for National Health Service Grampian.

The Duke of Kent, Colonel, Scots Guards, this morning visited HMS DUNCAN in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

The Duchess of Gloucester, President, this afternoon attended a Meeting of the Governing Body at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London NW1.

The Princess Royal, Chancellor, University of the Highlands and Islands, this afternoon opened the renovated West Highland College, Struan Road, Portree, Isle of Skye, and was received by Mr. John Laing (Deputy Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty). Her Royal Highness, Patron, afterwards attended a Columba Gathering at Columba 1400, the Community and International Leadership Centre, Staffin, Isle of Skye. The Princess Royal, Patron, this evening attended a Dinner at Columba 1400.
