Following His Majesty The King’s Accession, the Royal Household is conducting a review of Royal Patronage.  The review will cover the organisations of which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Patron and those organisations to which The King and The Queen Consort were connected through Patronage or Presidency as Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Members of the Royal Family have links with hundreds of charities, military associations, professional bodies and public service organisations. Some are well known, while others may be smaller bodies working in a very specialist area or on a local basis only.

Having a Royal patron or president provides vital publicity for the work of these organisations, and allows their enormous achievements and contributions to society to be recognised.

You can use this database to find the organisations with which members of the Royal Family are associated.

The Smeatonian Society of Civil Engineers

The Society of Civil Engineers was founded in 1771 by John Smeaton as a dining club to facilitate 'conversation, argument and social communication of ideas and knowledge, in the particular walks of each member at the same time the amusement and the business of meetings'. Since 1990 the Society has made its home at the Institution of Civil Engineers in Great George Street.

The objects of the Society are:

- To be a Society to which leading engineers of the day of all disciplines aspire

- To arrange a variety of convivial dinners and other meetings attractive to members and their guests

- To retain the Society's unique traditions and camaraderie.
