The Countess of Wessex visits Connaught School and Heatherwood Hospital

Connaught School

The Countess of Wessex visited Connaught Junior School in Bagshot to officially opening the school’s new STEAM Lab, a dedicated space for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths, and to help the school celebrate their 60 year anniversary.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness met students and staff and toured the new Lab and heard how it will help the children. The next stop was the pottery room where The Countess joined the Year 5 class to make some clay tiles to celebrate the school’s 60th birthday.

Her Royal Highness then planted a tree with some of the Eco Council to mark The Queen's Green Canopy initiative. The Eco Councillors chose the tree, a cherry blossom, and talked about projects they are working on at school, such as composting with waste food and highlighting the dangers of plastics on the environment. 

The visit finished with The Countess meeting the school dog, Toffee, who demonstrated some of his tricks.

Heatherwood Hospital

At Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, Her Royal Highness then officially opened Frimley Health’s new centre of excellence for non-emergency care.

The Countess was able to tour new centre, which included visiting the the hospital’s state of the art theatre area, the day case ‘pods’, the ophthalmology department and an inpatient ward.  

Her Royal Highness was able to meet staff and patients and finished the visit by unveiling a plaque.
