The Duchess visited Robin Hood Primary School in London to see how the scheme has been using gardening to help learning.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening inspires and supports schools to provide children with gardening opportunities to enhance their skills and boost their development.
On arrival at Robin Hood Primary School Her Royal Highness received a briefing about the RHS nation-wide campaign and how it helps outdoor learning.
The pupils of Robin Hood Primary School then showed The Duchess their outdoor learning area and sensory garden.
This space gives the children an opportunity to explore, consolidate and develop their knowledge and understanding of the ever-changing natural environment.
The activities are created to inspire their curiosity, stimulate their senses and through challenging, yet achievable tasks using various real tools and natural resources, bring learning to life.
After visiting the outdoor space, The Duchess was given an overview of the School Gardeners of the Year competition and met a group of parents, before cutting a cake to celebrate 10 years of the scheme.
The annual competition is given to a young person, aged 5-16, who demonstrates a true passion for gardening, has made an outstanding contribution to their school and local community and shows skills beyond their years.
