The Duchess of Cornwall joins a video call with Dame Darcey Bussell and Angela Rippon

With the announcement that The Duchess of Cornwall is to become Vice Patron of the Royal Academy of Dance, Her Royal Highness has undertaken a video call with Dame Darcey Bussell and Angela Rippon to discuss the RAD's Silver Swans programme.

In taking on the role, The Duchess joins Her Majesty The Queen, who has been Patron of the Royal Academy of Dance since 1953.

The Silver Swans initiative has been developed for older learners so they can also enjoy ballet. Older learners of any ability are welcome to try out Silver Swans classes, and now the Royal Academy of Dance is offering at-home classes.

During the video call, The Duchess said:

I love dance in any form, so it’s a real honour for me to be asked. My visit there was so memorable, first of all because of the Silver Swans, but actually meeting everybody. It had a wonderful feeling of comradeship and also such a happy place! I think dancing makes you happy.
