The Duchess of Cornwall has supported a YOU magazine article to help raise awareness of the SafeLives ‘Reach In’ campaign.
Since lockdown began in the UK, calls to the National Domestic Abuse Helpline have risen by 49% and the number of women killed has jumped to twice the national average since the beginning of lockdown.
SafeLives ‘Reach In’ campaign encourages people to look out for their neighbours, friends and family if they suspect they are suffering from domestic abuse.
The Duchess of Cornwall, who celebrated SafeLives UK’s 15th anniversary in February and has been highlighting the work of domestic abuse charities for over a decade, said to YOU Magazine:
SafeLives provides a lifeline to women, men and children who are suffering, or who have suffered, from domestic abuse.
When I first visited them several years ago, I listened to the harrowing stories from these remarkably brave women and I knew that I wanted to do something to help... I very much hope that, after reading their stories, you will want to help too.
During these exceptional times, it is even more important that we all look out for each other. If you think someone you know might be at risk, then please follow the advice from SafeLives and ‘reach in’. It really could make all the difference.
