The Duchess of Cornwall visits Manchester

The Duchess of Cornwall was in Manchester today, visiting centres of support for families in the area. The Duchess’s first visit was to a Rape and Sexual abuse centre that provides a comprehensive service to men, women and children who have been raped or sexually assaulted.

The next stop for The Duchess was to Big Manchester, a project led by children’s charity Barnardo’s. The project supports families affected by mental ill-health, domestic abuse and substance misuse.

The Duchess met families who have worked with Big Manchester to develop strategies that are helping them build resilience, develop coping strategies and ultimately transform their lives for the better.

Our final visit in Manchester was to Maggie’s, a cancer support centre which was officially opened by The Duchess today.

Every year, 50,000 people in the North West are diagnosed with cancer and Maggie’s believes that, as the number of people living with cancer increases, the need for support becomes even more important.

These Centres offer a calm haven with a warm, and welcoming atmosphere with practical support and a chance to chat to other people and their families facing the challenge of cancer.

The Duchess learnt more about the support Maggie’s offers from patients and carers, which includes psychological support, nutrition workshops, relaxation and art therapy. Read Her Royal Highness's speech from the opening of the Centre here.
