The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay visit Dumfries and Galloway

Today The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as The Prince of Wales and Duchess are Cornwall are known when in Scotland, visited Dumfries and Galloway for a day of engagements.

Their Royal Highnesses first toured the Bladnoch Distillery, the southernmost distillery in Scotland, which dates back to 1817.

While The Duke took a look around the whisky production area, The Duchess joined a reception with local community groups and volunteers from the area.

In Garlieston, The Duke and Duchess met local residents and attended the ‘Garlieston’s Secret War’ exhibition, which overlooks the port where the Mulberry Harbours were tested in the lead up to D-Day in 1944. Their Royal Highnesses also visited The Harbour Inn, the village’s local pub.

To end the day, The Duchess of Rothesay visited Moat Brae House and Gardens, which is also Scotland’s National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling.

The Georgian townhouse and gardens were acknowledged by author J. M. Barrie as the inspiration for Peter Pan.

On a tour of the house, Her Royal Highness met pupils from the Dumfries Academy Dramatic Club, the same school that J. M. Barrie attended as a boy, as well as storytellers, Scottish authors and illustrators.
