The Duke of Edinburgh visits Ignite Trust Youth Centre

Ignite Trust’s approach is centred around detached work where youth workers go out into the community with the aim of drawing young people into their activities and reducing anti-social behaviour.

The Duke of Edinburgh visited Expression, a youth community group that meets weekly for young people aged 13-19 in Harrow. It aims to encourage and inspire young people through sports, social time and life skills discussions. 

I’ve been visiting the Boys & Girls Clubs, now known as London Youth clubs, for the last 69 years and I understand the value in it. We need to educate people from the very start. It’s all in the process of growing up

The Duke met young people benefitting from Ignite Trust's activity and education based programmes; His Royal Highness became Patron of The Federation of London Youth Clubs (London Youth) on 1st Jan 1947– his first charity patronage. He has since undertaken 125 engagements with the charity over the course of nearly 70 years as their Patron. 

The Duke also visited Cedars Youth and Community Trust, who aim to make a positive difference for all through sport and learning, delivering of a diverse range of projects across six key themes; Sports Participation, Education, Health, Social Inclusion, Environment and Community Facilities.

London Youth's network includes over 300 community Youth Clubs and its members are located in the poorest 20 per cent of areas in England. London Youth supports and challenges young people to become the best they can be through hundreds of diverse community youth organisations.

The charity works to directly develop the confidence, resilience and relationship skills of over 25,000 children and young people each year, and reach tens of thousands more through their membership network. Find out more about London Youth's work on their website http://londonyouth.org/
