The Duke of Gloucester opens a national memorial which will pay tribute to organ and tissue donors across the UK.

The Gift of Life Memorial, at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, honours the donors and their families who made the decision to help save the lives of others.

The Duke of Gloucester unveiled the memorial on behalf of the Donor Family Network.

The memorial also recognises those who have received transplants thanks to the kindness of others, those anxiously waiting for the organ or tissue transplant they need and those who have sadly died waiting for a life saving transplant.

The DFN became a charity in 2003 and it supports donor families and promotes organ and tissue donation.
