The Earl and Countess of Wessex commemorate Sri Lanka's 70th Anniversary of Independence

The Earl and Countess of Wessex visited Sri Lanka this month to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Independence, on behalf of The Queen.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex have visited Sri Lanka to commemorate the country's 70th Anniversary of Independence, on behalf of The Queen.
Her Majesty also sent a message to His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to mark the anniversary. You can read it here.
The Earl and The Countess departed from the UK on 30 January and carried out several engagements during the five-day visit.
As well as commemorating the country's Anniversary of Independence, the visit celebrated the long-standing UK and Sri Lanka relationship, the Commonwealth, education and young people.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex then visited Third Space Global, a British owned company which employs young Sri Lankans to deliver online 1-2-1 teaching to over 6,000 primary school children across the UK.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex also visited the Mentally Handicapped Children and Families Project in Nuwara Eliya.
On the second day of Their Royal Highnesses' visit to Sri Lanka, The Earl and Countess spent the day in Kandy, where they visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and St. Paul's Anglican Church.
Their Royal Highnesses then met students and staff at Trinity College Royal, before walking around Kandy's Botanical Gardens.
The Earl of Wessex then travelled to India for a series of engagements.
