The Earl of Wessex visits Romania

 

As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, The Earl of Wessex is visiting Romania for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award 14th Forum, which takes place every three years.  

Taking place in the Cluj Napoca region of Romania, the conference brings together international leaders to discuss and plan the future growth of the Award worldwide.

The Forum formally began 11th October, where The Earl gave a speech at the official Welcoming Ceremony.

Throughout the four-day event, His Royal Highness met young Gold Award holders from across Europe and heard first-hand about the positive impact the Award has had on their lives.

The visits included meeting young people at academia de Fotbal Viitorul Cluj who are participating in the Award - giving The Earl the chance to brush up on his own football skills!

Established in the country over 20 years ago, currently over 10,000 young people across Romania are participating in the award scheme.

The theme of this year’s Forum was ‘supporting the infinite potential of young people’ and focused on the challenges and opportunities facing young people today,  andexamined how the Award can work to ensure they are fully equipped to face the world.

At the end of the week, The Earl attended an International Gold Award Ceremony at Babes-Bolyai University, where 70 young people from seven countries across Europe received their Awards.

Throughout the week, The Earl was joined at events by, Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of Romanian Crown and HRH Prince Radu of Romania, HRH The Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, The Rt. Hon. Lord Boateng, International Trustee and Chair of the Award’s International Council and Vice-mayor, Dan Tarcea, of Cluj Napoca.
