Events to mark the anniversary of VJ Day

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend a commemorative service to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day in St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square.

Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will attend a Drumhead Service and Wreath-laying ceremony on Horse Guards Parade followed by a reception in the grounds of Westminster Abbey, hosted by The Royal British Legion.

Both events take place on 15 August 2015.

Background:

1. The service in St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square will be attended by veterans, including former Prisoners of War, and Civilian Internees and is organised by National FEPOW (Far East Prisoners of War) Fellowship Welfare Remembrance Association.

2. The service at Horse Guards will include veterans, their families, and current members of the Armed Forces at a special commemorative event hosted by Her Majesty’s Government and The Royal British Legion. The event will begin with a fly-past of four historic aircraft, a Spitfire, Dakota and Hurricane of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a Royal Navy Swordfish, together with a current RAF Typhoon and culminate in a parade from Horse Guards to Westminster Abbey.
