THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE COMMUNICATIONS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will make a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from 24 to 26 June. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are visiting at the invitation of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck.

Background

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh previously paid State Visits to the Federal Republic of Germany in May 1965 and subsequently in May 1978, October 1992 and in November 2004.

The Queen paid an official visit to Berlin in July 2000, to open the new British Embassy.

The Queen also paid an official visit to Berlin to mark the 750th anniversary of the city in May 1987.

President Gauck and his partner, Daniela Schadt, were the guests of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh at a lunch at Buckingham Palace on 13th November, 2012.

President and Frau Herzog paid a State Visit to the United Kingdom in December 1998. Other State Visits to the United Kingdom were made in 1958 (President Heuss), 1972 (President and Frau Heinemann), and 1986 (President and Freifrau von Weizsäcker).
