The King and The Queen Consort visit Wales

The King and The Queen Consort were in Wales today as part of Their Majesties’ programme of visits across the regions.

Their Majesties were greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan and the Vice Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan at Landaff Cathedral in Cardiff where they attended a Service of Prayer and Reflection for the life of Her Majesty The Queen.

The Service was led by the Dean and The Archbishop of Wales gave the address. The First Minister of Wales delivered a reading and The Bishop of Llandaff and Interfaith leaders led the prayers. The Order of Service is available here.

After the service, The King and The Queen Consort met school children and members of the local community who had gathered on Llandaff Green. Their Majesties thanked them for their good wishes and messages of condolence.

At the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, The King and The Queen Consort were greeted by The Llywydd and First Minister, who then presented the leaders of opposition parties.

In the Siambr, the debating chamber, The King and The Queen Consort received a Motion of Condolence from the First Minister.

The King responded to the address:

“Through all the years of her reign, the land of Wales could not have been closer to my mother’s heart.  Roedd lle arbennig i Gymru yn ei chalon.”

After the session concluded, Their Majesties had the opportunity to meet Senedd members and members of the Youth Parliament.

Next, The King conducted audiences at Cardiff Castle where he received the First Minister of Wales and the Presiding Officer (Llywydd).

The King and The Queen Consort then attended a reception for local charities at Cardiff Castle, attended by representatives of Royal Patronages and members of faith communities.

Their Majesties concluded their time in Cardiff meeting members of the public in the castle grounds.
