His Majesty The King has met families settled in Aberdeen from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine and heard about programmes set up by Aberdeen City Council to support them.
On arrival in Aberdeen, His Majesty was greeted by The Lord Provost before heading to the city’s Town Hall, where he met some of the key workers who have helped support refugee communities in Aberdeen.
The King then joined a reception where he met Afghan, Syrian and Ukrainian families who have been supported by Government Schemes in Aberdeen.
His Majesty had the opportunity to hear personal stories from families on their evacuation, their arrival in Aberdeen and some of the challenges they have faced.
The reception came to end with a choir, made up from Dyce Primary School pupils and Robert Gordon University students, who sang ‘The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen’ with support from Afghan, Syrian and Ukrainian people who have settled in Aberdeen.
The King also had the chance to meet some of well-wishers who had gathered in Aberdeen.
