The King visits Aboyne Community Shed

His Majesty met members of the local Aberdeenshire community who use the new space for everything from practical skills sessions to social groups for the elderly and young families.
The Aboyne and Mid Deeside Community Shed opened in 2021 and is an inclusive local community space where groups hold regular workshop, arts, crafts and other practical and wellbeing sessions.
The Shed aims to improve the health and welfare of Mid Deeside residents by reducing rural social isolation. Groups meet for 'purposeful activity' sessions: some workshop or craft-room based, others purely social.
The King met representatives from a number of different local charities and voluntary groups including organisations which provide food and transport for those in need, and which arrange sessions for groups including the elderly and young families.
His Majesty was given a tour of the ground floor which houses the Aboyne Men’s Shed workshop. During the tour, he watched craft skills in action, including wood and stone carving, and met local representatives of the Aboyne Men’s Shed charity. His Majesty also joined a group of local men who meet at the Shed a weekly basis to discuss how the workshop and Shed have helped them combat rural loneliness.
