The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visit Salisbury

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have visited Salisbury in recognition of the recovery programme that is happening in the city.

A major incident happened on Sunday 4th March 2018 in Salisbury which resulted in three people being taken seriously ill.

The response to the incident, and the subsequent recovery work, has involved a major scale of effort, drawing on resources and assets from local and national partners. Wiltshire Council became the lead agency for recovery, responsible for communications, decontamination/clean-up, public health and welfare, economic business recovery and support.

Their Royal Highnesses toured local businesses and met owners and employees. Nine businesses were closed as a result of the incident and businesses near to the cordons saw footfall reduce between 60-80%.

The Prince and The Duchess also greeted members of the public who had gather in the city centre before attending a reception in the Guildhall to speak with members of the team assisting with the recovery work, including Wiltshire Council, Salisbury City Council, Defra, MOD, Salisbury District Hospital, Wiltshire Police, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Chamber of Commerce, Business Improvement District, Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire Creative Arts Trust, events and marketing teams.

Salisbury’s recovery is well under way and the city is getting back to normal.  A programme of events to improve footfall and bring visitors back into Salisbury has already got underway and Their Royal Highnesses were pleased to see some of effects of the recovery effort during their visit.
