The Prince of Wales attended The Royal Africa Society Film Festival

The Prince of Wales attended The Royal Africa Society’s biennial film festival, Film Africa in London.

Established in 2011, Film Africa showcases the best African cinema from across the continent and diaspora in the UK. The festival featured 48 films from 16 countries, in 7 venues (including 22 UK, Europe and world premieres), alongside a vibrant series of events, including director Q&As, talks and discussions; professional workshops and masterclasses; school screenings and family activities for the younger generation; and Film Africa LIVE! music nights.

Film Africa also recognises and supports new film-making talent through the Baobab Award for Best Short Film and the Audience Award for Best Feature Film.

His Royal Highness joined young film students of African heritage at the Garden Cinema at an event providing an opportunity to learn more about the film industry from different angles, network with others working in the industry, and learn from international professionals at the top of their game.

The Prince then joined the audience for a Q&A session with Mo Abudu, founder of EbonyLife TV and EbonyLife Films and described by Forbes as one of Africa’s most successful women; Nana Mensah, a Ghanaian-American writer, director, actor and producer and the creative behind the award-winning film Queen of Glory; and Colleen Morris, an award-winning costume and fashion designer who has worked on the Bond franchise as well as series across Netlfix, HBO and Apple TV.

Following this interactive discussion, the speakers and audience broke out into more informal workshop groups. His Royal Highness then joined to learn more about the specific areas each speaker represents and the experiences of the students taking part in the day.
