Princess Alexandra opens new Wiltshire care home

84-year old Mrs Mary Symes showed Princess Alexandra around her spacious new bedroom with its ensuite bathroom, WiFi and state-of-the-art nurse call facility, during the Princess' visit to Avonbourne Care Centre in Salisbury.

The Princess also met Mrs Rita Foley, 82, who was being treated to a manicure in the home's hair and beauty salon, and spoke to residents baking biscuits, making crafts and playing dominoes.

Avonbourne is Wiltshire's newest care facility, run by The Orders of St John Care Trust, one of the UK's largest not-for-profit care providers. The new facility has rooms for 120 residents, arranged in small household units, each with its own communal dining and lounge areas. The home also includes several ‘destination zones’, including a high street-themed first floor, complete with a shop, cafe, hair salon and cinema.

We couldn’t be more excited about having Princess Alexandra coming to visit us to officially open Avonbourne Care Centre. Our residents and employees were thrilled to welcome her and were very keen to show her around our new home

The Princess met representatives involved in bringing the new home to fruition, as well as staff and nurses who work at the centre.
