The Private Secretary is responsible for supporting The Queen in her duties as Head of State.
The office holder is the channel of communication between the Head of State and the Government, not only in the United Kingdom but also in the 14 other realms of which The Queen is Sovereign.
The Private Secretary also liaises with the Armed Forces, the Church and the many organisations of which Her Majesty is patron.
The current Private Secretary to The Queen is The Rt. Hon. Sir Edward Young KCVO, who took up the role on the 1st September 2017.
Sir Edward had earlier served as Deputy Private Secretary and Assistant Private Secretary, having joined The Royal Household in 2004.
Previously, he had worked for Granada PLC as Head of Corporate Communications and for Barclays PLC, where he held a range of financial and executive roles.
