THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN
At the invitation of President Horst Köhler, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will pay a State Visit to Germany from 2 to 4 November 2004.
Background
The Queen paid an official visit to Berlin in July 2000, to open the new British Embassy.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh previously paid State Visits to the Federal Republic of Germany in May 1965, May 1978 and October 1992.
The Queen paid an official visit to Berlin to mark the 750th anniversary of the city in May 1987.
President and Frau Herzog paid a State Visit to the United Kingdom in December 1998. Other State Visits to the United Kingdom were made in 1958 (President Heuss), 1972 (President and Frau Heinemann), and 1986 (President and Freifrau von Weizsacker).
