The Queen Consort visits Bath and Lacock

Today Her Majesty The Queen Consort arrived in Bath to tour the new city centre offices of The Royal Osteoporosis Society.

The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) is the UK’s largest national charity dedicated to improving bone health and beating osteoporosis. The ROS equips people with practical information and support to act on their bone health. 3.5 million people in the UK are estimated to have osteoporosis and half of women over 50 and 1/5 of men will break a bone due to the condition.

In October 2022, Her Majesty helped launch the ROS’s new Risk Checker, which gives users a personalised risk assessment. Since then, 50,000 people have checked their risk and 200 people have started treatment based on their results.

The Queen Consort first became involved with the charity in 1994, after her mother and grandmother suffered with the condition.

Before departing, The Queen Consort made a few remarks, saying:

The modernisation, the technology, that has happened in osteoporosis is incredible. So let’s go from strength to strength and make it even better.

Having toured the offices, Her Majesty travelled to Bath Guildhall to join a reception of guests, predominantly from the Bath and South West area, who raise awareness of the Royal Osteoporosis Society throughout the region.

Following speeches from Craig Jones, CEO of the Royal Osteoporosis Society, and Annette Browne, speaker and lead advocate volunteer, The Queen Consort unveiled a plaque which will be positioned at the new offices.

Ending the day, Her Majesty visited the village of Lacock, where she met community representatives at St Cyriac’s Church and planted a tree as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy. Proceeding into the village, Her Majesty popped into some of the local shops and spoke to residents as she passed by.
