The Queen was welcomed to the Senedd by local schoolchildren from Mount Stuart Primary as she joined The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at the Welsh Parliament building.

Her Majesty met leaders of the main political parties in Wales as well as COVID community champions before the ceremony began.

In Her speech, The Queen spoke of the challenges of the pandemic, saying of the champions:

They are shining examples of the spirit for which the Welsh people are so renowned, that I have personally encountered so many times.

There was a performance by the Welsh National Opera and members of the first Youth Parliament read a specially commissioned Literature Wales Project poem.

A posy was presented to Her Majesty by Ffion Sara Gwyther, a young COVID community champion.
