The Queen visits Dundee

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, visits Dundee for a full day of engagements, including visits to the Michelin Tyre Factory and to the University of Dundee.

The day started with a visit to the Michelin Tyre factory - the Dundee plant has been producing car tyres for 44 years, and is the largest private employer in the city.

Her Majesty and The Duke visited the Apprenticeship Training School, where it trains over 60 young engineers.

Her Majesty and The Duke next visited Dundee’s Waterfront to Slessor Gardens, named after the Dundee missionary Mary Slessor. The Queen chatted with the crowd, before settling to watch a music and a karate performance.

After opening Slessor Gardens, The Queen and The Duke visited Dundee City Chambers, arriving to a cacophony of Bagpipes in the city centre.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness then emerged on a balcony above the a huge crowd waiting to greet them.

After lunch, The Queen and The Duke visited the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Dundee.

Her Majesty visited the forensic lab, part of the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification. The Queen and The Duke viewed techniques including facial reconstruction, fingerprinting and electrical fire investigation, at one of the world’s foremost institutions for the study and application of human anatomy and forensic human identification.
