The Queen's Golden Jubilee programme

THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will undertake an extensive programme of visits and attend other events to mark her Golden Jubilee. The details of their engagements throughout the United Kingdom during May to early August were announced today.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be travelling as widely as possible across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, although they will not be able to visit all cities and counties.

This programme of visits and engagements will include not only national events, but also engagements with a range of organisations at local level in recognition of the importance of communities and voluntary service. Such visits will enable The Queen to express her thanks to people throughout the country for their support and loyalty.

Details of their programme are as follows:

29 April

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister at No 10 Downing Street

30 April

Subject to approval by each House, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will attend a session of the Joint Houses of Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall at which Her Majesty will address both Houses

South West (1-2 May)

1 May

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit the National Maritime Museum (Cornwall) Falmouth; The Queen will view a Celebration of Cornish Gardens, Trelissick, whilst The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Falmouth College of Art; The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend Lunch to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Diocese of Truro; meet representatives of the community in Cornwall, Truro Cathedral; attend a musical performance by young people in Exeter; attend a Reception hosted by the County of Devon, County Hall, Exeter

2 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit the Farmers' Market and Vivary Park, Taunton; visit Wells, where The Duke of Edinburgh will also present Award Scheme Gold Awards; attend Lunch hosted by Bath & North East Somerset Council at Guildhall, Bath; view Bath Abbey restoration; attend Reception at Pump Rooms

North East (7-8 May)

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will open Winter Gardens, Sunderland; open Metro Link between Sunderland and Gateshead; visit St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School, Jarrow; officially open the Millennium Bridge; visit Baltic Centre; attend Gala event, City Hall, Newcastle.

8 May

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Seaham, Easington, and Blackhall Rocks; visit Durham Castle; open Millennium Place, Durham; visit Darlington. The Duke of Edinburgh will present Award Scheme Gold Awards at Peterlee, and visit Stockton Campus, Durham University
