The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales

The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales supports a broad and ambitious spectrum of activities, bringing people, ideas and resources together to understand issues, explore creative solutions and be a catalyst for long-term impact.

The Royal Foundation develops programmes and initiatives based on the charitable interests of The Prince and Princess of Wales by working with organisations which are already making a proven impact in their respective fields.

Areas of work

Conservation

The natural world is our most important asset. The Royal Foundation addresses these pressing environmental and conservation crises by bringing together environmentalists, businesses, global leaders, and NGOs to find solutions.

Early Years

Stemming originally from her work on issues like addiction and family breakdown, The Princess of Wales has observed that so many of society’s greatest social and health challenges, and the inter-generational cycle of disadvantage, could be mitigated or entirely avoided by providing the right support for children in the earliest years of life.

Mental Health

Mental health matters just as much as our physical health, yet too often it is ignored, misunderstood and neglected. It is one of the biggest public health issues of today, impacting all aspects of society.

Emergency Responders

We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our emergency services. This work was born out of a recognition that, even in normal times, the work of the emergency responder community places tremendous demands on their mental health and wellbeing.

Current Programmes and initiatives

The Earthshot Prize

Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it’s clear that the time to act is now.

Drawing inspiration from the concept of moonshots, which since the moon landing in 1969 has become shorthand to talk about the most ambitious and ground-breaking goals, The Prince of Wales announced the Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet.

United for Wildlife Taskforces

The private sector can become involved unwittingly with those who traffic wildlife products – these include ivory, rhino horn and pangolin scales. Illegal wildlife trade is among the five most lucrative global crimes and is often run by highly organised criminal networks.

Although such networks are difficult to detect and even more difficult to deter, combining forces with the private sector is crucial to be able to stop the trafficking of wildlife products. By forming partnerships with businesses, United for Wildlife are bringing new voices to the conservation discussion to identify and implement solutions.

Heads Together

Heads Together is a mental health initiative spearheaded by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, which combines a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health with fundraising for a series of innovative new mental health services.

Launched in 2016 by The Prince and Princess of Wales and The Duke of Sussex, the initiative built on the work they have done to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health for everyone.

Heads Up

Imagine if we talked about mental health as much as we talk about football. It’s our national game – passionately followed and wholeheartedly loved by millions in the UK and billions around the world. Many of us won’t go a day without talking about it.

That’s why Heads Together partnered with The FA to start Heads Up, a campaign that uses football to normalise the conversation around mental health. Through Heads Up, our aim is to help people feel as comfortable talking about mental health as they are talking football.

Our Frontline

As part of the response to COVID-19, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales is formally supporting Our Frontline, an initiative which brings together leading mental health charities to provide resources and support to frontline staff and key workers.

The Foundation has a long history of raising awareness of the importance of mental health and played a leading role in creating Shout and the Mental Health at Work programme, both of which are key elements of the Our Frontline initiative.
