Royal Maundy service 2006

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will attend the Royal Maundy Service at Guildford Cathedral on Thursday, 13 April 2006.

During the service, The Queen will distribute Maundy Money to 80 men and 80 women - one for each of The Queen's 80 years. Each recipient receives two purses, a red purse and a white purse.

The recipients are all retired pensioners recommended by clergy and ministers of all denominations, in recognition of service to the Church and to the community.
