The Royal Week 21-27 May 2022

Monday 23 May

The Queen, Patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, attended the Chelsea Flower Show. 

The Royal Family’s long association with show began when Her Majesty’s Great-Grandmother, Queen Alexandra, attended the very first show.

Joining Her Majesty at the show was The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Beatrice, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Princess Michael of Kent.

At the show, The Earl and Countess of Wessex were shown the John Ystumllyn rose. 

Earlier in the day, one of the roses has planted at Buckingham Palace in honour of the 18th century horticulturist, who was one of Britain’s first black gardeners. The yellow rose created in his honour represents the values of friendship and community, and serves as a reminder of how gardening can bring people together.

Tuesday 24 May

The Amir of the State of Qatar visited The Queen at Windsor Castle. 

The Prince of Wales, Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath,  attended a Service for the Order in Westminster Abbey.

In 1975, His Royal Highness was installed as Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath by The Queen, Sovereign of the Order. During the Service, nine new members were inducted into the order of the chivalry.

His Royal Highness also hosted the Prince’s Trust Awards.

Founded by HRH in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has helped more than a million disadvantaged young people across the UK - three in four of those supported over the last five years have moved into work, education or training.

The Duke of Cambridge, President of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust,  visited the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex were getting into the Jubilee spirit on the Isle of Wight.

The Earl also got involved in some more Platinum Jubilee preparations by helping to assemble some bunting at Independent Arts, a local charity that uses the arts to improve wellbeing, quality of life and to reduce social isolation.

During their day on the Island, Their Royal Highnesses also visited the PAN Estate in Newport to see the work being done by the Community Centre, the Barnados Family Centre and Barton Primary School.  They finished their visit at Columbus House sheltered housing to join the start of their Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

At St Paul’s Cathedral, The Duchess of Gloucester attended the Clergy Support Trust’s annual festival and gave a reading.

The Queen is Patron of the Trust which provides support to clergy (serving and retired)and their families, in the UK & Ireland.

Platinum Jubilee preparations continued, as The Queen's Green Canopy 'Tree of Trees' was completed.

Wednesday 25 May

The Queen had her weekly Audience with the Prime Minister.

The Duke of Cambridge, on behalf of The Queen, and The Duchess of Cambridge hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Beatrice, The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were present also attended the events which was the last of the 2022 Buckingham Palace Garden Parties.

Over the last few weeks, over 20,000 people have been welcomed the Gardens - with many guests nominated to come as a way to recognise the work they do in their communities.

The Prince of Wales was in Romania, where was joined by Her Majesty Margareta of Romania, to see first-hand the excellent response of the Romanian authorities and international and local organisations to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Romanian Red Cross volunteers are along the border giving out food, water and hygiene products to people in need. Thousands of SIM cards are also being distributed so that loved ones can keep in touch.

The Countess of Wessex, Global Ambassador for International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, attended the ‘Vision for the Commonwealth’ Conference.

The Duke of Kent this attended a Service to Commemorate the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Consecration of Coventry Cathedral. 

Thursday 26 May

The Duke of Gloucester was in Kent, where he visited the Romney Marsh Community Hub, Romney Marsh Business Hub and the Littlestone Coastal Destination Project at Greatstone. 

With just one week to go until the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Weekend, The Royal Family social media channels also launched a very special emoji to mark the occasion. 

Friday 27 May

 The Earl of Wessex unveiled a statue of The Queen at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
