The Royal Week 26 March - 1 April 2022

Saturday 26th March

On their final day in The Bahamas as part of their Caribbean tour, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent time in Abaco and Grand Bahama, learning about the impact of Hurricane Dorian and the regeneration work that has followed - as well as enjoying some Bahamian cuisine at a Fish Fry.

The final engagement of The Royal Highnesses tour was a visit to the 2021 Earthshot Prize Winner, Coral Vita, where they heard more about the ambitious plans to preserve threatened ecosystems globally for the future.

Monday 28th March

On Monday The Duchess of Gloucester attended a meeting of the Governing Body at the Royal Academy of Music, of which she is President.

Tuesday 29th March

The Queen was joined by Members of The Royal Family for The Service of Thanksgiving for The Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey.

Made up of representatives from over 500 of The Duke’s patronages and charities, the congregation celebrated and gave thanks to the life of His Royal Highness.

In the afternoon, The Prince of Wales held a reception for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, of which he is Patron, at St. James's Palace, before attending a dinner at Windsor Castle to mark the Seventy Fifth Anniversary of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester joined Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands for a reception at Kensington Palace to celebrate the centenary of the Anglo-Netherlands Society.

Wednesday 30th March

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall officially opened the new Meta Offices in King’s Cross, London.

During their visit,  Their Royal Highnesses were shown a few different examples of innovative technology built by Meta, including by engineers in London, which have a variety of positive uses, such as their online safety tools.

The Countess of Wessex was officially named as the new Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, also known as REME. The role was previously held by The Duke of Edinburgh for over 50 years.

The Prince of Wales and The Princess Royal both conducted Investitures at Windsor Castle on behalf of The Queen. Among the recipients were Robert Rinder, his mother, Angela Cohen, Adrian Lester and his wife Lolita Chakrabarti.

Thursday 31st March

On Thursday, The Queen held virtual audiences with incoming Ambassadors. Her Majesty spoke to His Excellency Mr. Sebastian Mateo Corral Bustamante, Ambassador from the Republic of Ecuador and His Excellency Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya Ambassador from the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

The Prince of Wales was in Cambridge to open the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership’s (C.I.S.L) new headquarters, the Entopia Building.  

His Royal Highness is the Royal Founding Patron of C.I.S.L, which develops leadership and solutions for a sustainable economy.

Continuing the day in Cambridge, His Royal Highness had the chance to meet Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholarship Awardees.

The Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholarships launched in spring 2019 during The Prince’s Caribbean Tour in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth.

His Royal Highness also toured the Whittle Laboratory to view findings from their ground-breaking work to accelerate the transition to sustainable aviation.

At Windsor Castle, The Earl of Wessex presented the Royal Gibraltar Regiment with new Regimental Colours.

The new Colours will be paraded in Gibraltar for the first time at The Queen’s Birthday Parade in June, which will be attended by The Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The Duke of Kent, Patron of Blood Cancer UK, visited University College London Institute of Immunity and Transplantation to learn more about their vital work.

The Princess Royal carried out engagements in Scotland in her role as President of Scotch Chef's Club and President of UK Fashion and Textile Association.

To mark the final day of the first tree planting season, The Countess of Wessex planted an elm tree in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. The Countess was joined by school children who have recently completed their Junior Forester Award.

That evening, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended a Queen’s Green Canopy reception at St. James's Palace to thank everyone involved for their work so far.

Friday 1st April

On Friday, The Princess Royal, in her role as Vice Patron of the British Horse Society, opened the new Scotland Operational Hub at Stirling Agricultural Centre. Her Royal Highness met Scottish members, supporters and volunteers and found out more about the work of the British Horse Society in Scotland.
