State Visit of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN

At the invitation of The Queen, His Excellency Mr Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, accompanied by Senhora Marisa Letícia Lula da Silva, will pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 7 to 9 March 2006.

The President and Senhora Lula da Silva will stay at Buckingham Palace.

Background

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh paid a State Visit to Brazil in November 1968.

President and Senhora Geisel paid a State Visit to the United Kingdom in May 1976.

President and Senhora Cardoso paid a State Visit to the United Kingdom in December 1997.

The Prince of Wales visited Brazil in March 2002.

The Duke of York visited Brazil in November 2002.
