Wales Week 2019

This week, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are carrying out engagements on their annual week in Wales.

Monday 1st July

The Prince attended a regimental memorial service and the laying up of the old Standard with 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards to mark the Regiment's sixtieth anniversary. His Royal Highness has been Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment since 2003.

The Prince also visited The Prince's Trust call centre at Nantgarw to meet those who are the first point of contact for any young person wishing to engage with the charity. Connect Assist, who partnered with The Prince's Trust Customer Service Helpline in 2017, have employed several helpline advisors who have completed a Prince's Trust programme themselves.

To end the day, His Royal Highness visited Ty’n-y-Coed Forest to hear of the work done by horse loggers and to hand out The Prince of Wales Trophy to the winner of the British Horse Loggers Woodland Management Award. The British Horse Loggers, of which The Prince is Patron, aim to promote horse logging as a viable and sustainable option within modern forestry, showcasing the benefits to both woodlands and horses.

Tuesday 2nd July

The Prince visited South Wales Police HQ to celebrate their 50th anniversary and meet officers from various units. During the visit, His Royal Highness dedicated the memorial garden, which features walls inscribed with the names of all colleagues who have died in service since the formation of the force. At The Royal Glamorgan Hospital, His Royal Highness officially launched the Royal College of Nursing Prince of Wales Nursing Cadet Scheme, which will contribute to the development and preparation of young people for employment in nursing.

Meanwhile, The Duchess of Cornwall visited the Dolau Bran Lunch Club in celebration of the club's 40th anniversary. In the evening, Their Royal Highnesses hosted an evening of music and drama at their Welsh home, Llwynywermod. The evening featured performances from Wynne Evans, students of RWCMD, and Alis Huws, who has been recently been appointed as the Official Harpist to The Prince of Wales.

Wednesday 3rd July

On Wednesday, Their Royal Highnesses attended celebrations in Victoria Park for the 50th anniversary of Swansea's City status, which was granted in 1969 following The Prince's Investiture. At the event, Their Royal Highnesses met members of the Swansea community and representatives from Their Royal Highnesses' charities and patronages working in Swansea and across Wales.

Following this, The Prince visited The Morriston Tabernacle Chapel to meet members of the congregation and local community, including some of which who were present when HRH visited 50 years ago.

The Duchess, meanwhile, visited The Lyric theatre and watched a performance by The Carmarthen and District Youth Opera, who are celebrating four decades of musical productions. Her Royal Highness then visited Carmarthen Market, who were recently named Best Market in Wales by Slow Food Cymru, to meet market traders and stall holders, including Richardson's Bakery, who made the cakes for Their Royal Highness's wedding reception in 2005.

To end the day, Her Royal Highness visited the National Botanic Garden of Wales to meet staff and volunteers and learn more about The National Seed Bank of Wales, which aims to increase the range and genetic diversity of Welsh native plants.
