The Duchess of Edinburgh this morning departed from Edinburgh Airport for Italy and was received later upon arrival at Rome-Ciampino International Airport by His Majesty's Ambassador to the Italian Republic (His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Edward Llewellyn).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon visited Montecassino Abbey, Cassino.

The Duchess of Edinburgh later attended a Service of Remembrance and laid a wreath at Monte Cassino Polish War Cemetery, Cassino.

Her Royal Highness this evening attended a Dinner given by His Majesty's Ambassador to the Italian Republic at the Residence in Rome.

A Guard of Honour found by Balaklava Company, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland was mounted in the Forecourt.

Afterwards The Duke of Edinburgh was received in the Forecourt by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh when the Rt. Hon. Lord Provost surrendered to His Royal Highness the Keys of the City, which The Duke of Edinburgh returned to him.

Her Majesty this afternoon met representatives of local organisations and community groups at the Parish Church of St. Mary, Church Square, Rye, and was received by Mrs. Sarah Kowitz (Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex).
