The following were received in audience by The King this afternoon and kissed hands upon their appointment as His Majesty's Ambassadors: Dr. Martin Longden (Libya), Mr. Giles Portman (Romania) and Mr. James Squire (the Swiss Confederation and non-resident Ambassador to the Principality of Liechtenstein).

Ms. Naomi Adams, Mrs. Portman and Mrs. Squire were also received by His Majesty.

Mr. Barry Lowen was received in audience by The King upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cameroon.

Mrs. Lowen was also received by His Majesty.

Mr. Nigel Casey was received in audience by The King and kissed hands upon his appointment as His Majesty's Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Mrs. Casey was also received by His Majesty.

The King spoke to The President of the State of Israel via telephone this afternoon.

Afterwards His Majesty spoke to The King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan via telephone.

The King held a Council at 4.30 p.m..

The Queen this evening gave a Reception at Clarence House to mark the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Forward Arts Foundation.

The Princess Royal, Patron, Scots in London Group, this evening attended a Reception at St. Columba's Church of Scotland, Pont Street, London SW1, and was received by Mr. Alastair King (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London).

Her Royal Highness, Member, afterwards attended a Blue Seal Club Dinner at the Cavalry and Guards Club, 127 Piccadilly, London W1.

Balmoral Castle

The King this morning visited James Jones and Sons Limited, Burnroot Sawmill, Aboyne, and was received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire (Mr. Alexander Manson) and the Chairman (Mr. Tom Bruce-Jones).

His Majesty, escorted by the Chairman and Mr. Duncan Cassie (Site Manager), toured the site, viewing the log sorting cabin, log yard, operations room of the main sawmill, and treatment plant and meeting members of staff and apprentices.
