The King presents new Sovereign's Standard to the Blues and Royals at Buckingham Palace

In the Quadrangle at Buckingham Palace, The King, Head of the Armed Forces, accompanied by The Princess Royal, Royal Colonel of The Blues and Royals, has presented the new Sovereign’s Standard to The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons).

35 service personnel and 27 military working horses will be on parade in the Buckingham Palace Quadrangle for the presentation of the new Standard, which normally takes place every decade. The Blues and Royals were last presented their Standard by Queen Elizabeth II in May 2014.

To start the ceremony as The King arrived, a Fanfare was sounded followed by a Royal Salute from the Blues and Royals. His Majesty was joined by The Princess Royal, Royal Colonel of The Blues and Royals. 

His Majesty gave a short speech:

As your Colonel-in-Chief, I know that your Colonel, The Princess Royal, joins me in thanking you all for your unlimited commitment and service, as well as your families for their tremendous and unwavering support, some of whom I am delighted to see are able to join us today.

The new Standard was then consecrated by the Chaplain General, before was presented by to His Majesty to the Regiment. 

The King presents a new Standard to the Blues and Royals

The new Standard of The Blues and Royals will be used on public parade for the first time on 17th June for The King’s Birthday Parade, the first of His Majesty’s reign. At the parade, the Regiment will provide a mounted Sovereign’s escort for His Majesty The King from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.

This year, the Welsh Guards’ Colour will be trooped at The King’s Birthday Parade, which will involve all seven regiments of the Household Division.
