His Royal Highness, Chairman, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, this afternoon held a Reception at the Residence of His Majesty’s Ambassador in Washington DC for young people who have achieved the Gold Standard in the Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh this evening departed Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia, for Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Colonel-in-Chief, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, this morning attended the Corps Memorial Service at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens, Croxall Road, Alrewas, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire (Professor Elizabeth Barnes).

Her Royal Highness this evening attended a Reception at Windsor Castle for the International Golf Charity, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Cup World Finals.

The Rt. Hon. Mark Carney MP (Prime Minister of Canada) had an audience of The King via telephone this evening.

His Majesty was represented by The Prince of Wales at the State Funeral of King Harald V of Norway which was held in Oslo Cathedral this afternoon.

The King was represented by the Very Reverend Professor David Fergusson (Dean of the Chapel Royal in Scotland) at the Funeral of the Very Reverend Dr. James Harkness (former Chaplain General, former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and former Dean of the Chapel Royal in Scotland) which was held at Durisdeer Parish Church, Durisdeer, Dumfriesshire, this afternoon.

The Princess Royal was represented by Mrs. David Bowes-Lyon.

The Duke of Gloucester was represented by the Very Reverend Dr. John Cairns.

The President of the Republic of Palau visited His Majesty this afternoon.

The King, Colonel-in-Chief, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, afterwards received Lieutenant-Colonel Bruce Bolton (Honorary Colonel) and Serving Personnel.

The King, Patron, the Royal Society, received Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence (Chairman of Trustees, Science Museum Group), Sir Ian Blatchford (Director, Science Museum Group), Sir Paul Nurse (President, the Royal Society) and Dame Julie Maxton (Executive Director, the Royal Society) who bestowed on His Majesty a Fellowship of the Science Museum Group.

Later, The King received President Clinton.

The Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of His Majesty.

The King, Royal Founding Patron, and The Queen this evening joined a Reception for the Royal Drawing School at Clarence House.

By command of The King, Mr. Alistair Harrison (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Dato Zakri Jaafar at 45-46 Belgrave Square, London SW1, this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for Malaysia in London.

Buckingham Palace

The King, Royal Founding Patron, The King's Trust, this morning held a Youth Opportunity Summit at Buckingham Palace.

The Hon. Louise Arbour was received in audience by His Majesty this afternoon upon her appointment as Governor-General of Canada.

Mr. Paul Brummell was received in audience by The King upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Mauritius.

Dr. Adriana Brummell was also received by His Majesty.

The following were received in audience by The King and kissed hands upon their appointment as His Majesty's Ambassadors: Mr. Mark Bryson-Richardson (the Arab Republic of Egypt), Ms. Sarah Hulton (the Republic of the Philippines and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Palau), Mr. Charles King (the Federal Republic of Somalia) and Ms. Joanne Lomas (the Republic of Estonia).

The Queen, Patron, the National Literacy Trust, and Patron, the Big Lunch, having been received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir Kenneth Olisa), today visited the British Library, Euston Road, London NW1, to mark the National Year of Reading, and subsequently joined a Big Lunch taking place in the British Library Piazza.

Her Majesty this afternoon held a Tea Party at Clarence House for children supported by the Dreams and Wishes charity.

The King and Queen were represented by the Marquess of Salisbury KG at the Service of Celebration for Lady Hobson (philanthropist) which was held at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London WC2, today.

His Royal Highness, Chaiman of the Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, afterwards attended a Meeting with the Hon. Paul Calandra (Minister of Education of Ontario) at Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London SW1.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, Northern Ballet, this evening attended a performance of "Gentleman Jack" at Sadler's Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1.

The Duchess of Edinburgh this morning departed from Heathrow Airport, London, and, having been received upon arrival at Geneva Airport, Switzerland, by Mr. Jamie Hamill (Deputy Head of Mission, United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other organisations in Geneva), undertook engagements in Geneva.

Her Royal Highness visited the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, Avenue de la Paix.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Global Ambassador, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, this afternoon attended 'the Value of Vision: the Roadmap to the Global Summit for Eye Health' event at the Headquarters of the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Avenue Appia.

Her Royal Highness later visited the Commonwealth Small States Office, Rue du Pré-de-la-Bichette.

The Duchess of Edinburgh this evening attended a Reception in recognition of Multilateralism and International Law at the Residence and was received by Mr. Kumar Iyer (United Kingdom Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other organisations in Geneva).

Her Royal Highness, Global Ambassador, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, later held a Dinner.

Buckingham Palace

Her Excellency the Rt. Hon. Mary Simon was received in audience by The King this afternoon upon relinquishing her appointment as Governor-General of Canada.

The King and Queen gave an Afternoon Party in the garden of Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were present.

His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms and The King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty.

The Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines Collingwood and the Band of the Coldstream Guards played selections of music during the afternoon.

The Queen this afternoon received Sir Francis Brooke, Bt. (The King's Representative at Ascot and Chairman of Ascot Authority (Holdings) Limited).

Her Majesty, Patron, Medical Detection Dogs, later held a Reception at Clarence House to mark the launch of the Electronic Nose (E-Nose) for use in the detection of cancer.
