Major General William Cubitt OBE speaks about military involvement in the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton
Published
A statement by the Major General Commanding the Household Division, Major General William Cubitt OBE, who will be responsible for all military ceremonial involvement on 29th April:
"It is a great honour for personnel of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force to be on parade for the wedding of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.
"The military presence will be led by the Household Division and will include Sovereign’s and Captain’s Escorts of the Household Cavalry; a Welsh Guards Guard of Honour at Buckingham Palace; Street Liners from the Royal Navy, Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and Royal Air Force; and military support in Westminster Abbey. Members of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and the State Bands will also be on duty. The Queen’s Guard will be found that day from 1st Battalion Irish Guards, which will be in the process of returning from Afghanistan, commanded by its Commanding Officer.
"The military presence is highly appropriate for such a major Royal occasion and is given added relevance by Prince William’s own military position as Commodore-in-Chief of Submarines, Colonel of the Irish Guards, Royal Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby, Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and as a serving officer of the Blues and Royals and of the Royal Air Force.
"All troops look forward eagerly to their chance to be on parade on this special day and wish Prince William and Catherine every good fortune for their future together."
