The Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer MP had an audience of The King this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.
Lady Starmer was also received by The King.
His Majesty received in audience the Rt. Hon. Andrew Burnham MP and requested him to form a new Administration. The Rt. Hon Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King's offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
Ms. Marie-France van Heel was also received by His Majesty.
The King this afternoon visited Cambridge Central Mosque, 309-313 Mill Road, Cambridge, and was received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire (Mrs. Julie Spence), the Chairman of Cambridge Mosque Trust (Dr. Timothy Winter), the Bishop of Ely (the Right Reverend Dr. Sarah Clark) and the Mayor of Cambridge (Councillor Maria Cleminson).
His Majesty, escorted by the Chairman of the Trust and Mrs. Julia Barfield (Director, Marks Barfield Architects), viewed the garden and architecture before meeting Trustees of Cambridge Mosque Trust.
The King afterwards entered the Prayer Hall and met those associated with the Mosque and those of other Religions from the local community.
His Majesty, Royal Founding President, The King's Foundation, subsequently met representatives of the Foundation's partnership with the University of Cambridge.
The King later officially opened the New Whittle Laboratory, University of Cambridge, 1 JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge and was received by Dame Veronica Courtice (Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire), the Chancellor of the University of Cambridge (the Lord Smith of Finsbury) and the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (Councillor Paul Bristow).
His Majesty toured the laboratory, escorted by Professor Robert Miller (Director of the Whittle Laboratory), before meeting participants of the Frank Whittle Summit.
The Queen, Patron, Emmaus UK, today visited Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney, Belsey Bridge Road, Ditchingham, and was received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk (the Lady Dannatt).
