The King marks 35 years of The King's Foundation

As Royal Founding Patron of the charity, The King has joined community representatives, students, alumni and ambassadors to celebrate the launch of The King's Foundation's 35th anniversary year at Dumfries House.

Founded by His Majesty when he was Prince of Wales in 1990, The King's Foundation works to build sustainable communities and transform lives, with an emphasis on protecting and promoting nature.
The charity’s early work at the Institute for Architecture formed the basis of the expanding work that it carries out today and laid the foundations for The King’s Foundation. The Institute worked to build sustainable towns and cities, with Poundbury as an early project.

Over the past 35 years, The King’s Foundation has multiple defining moments in its history, including the acquisition of Dumfries House in 2007, the publication of the Harmony Book in 2010 and the recent launch of The King’s Foundation Australia in October 2024. Every year the charity supports 15,000 students across its education programmes and has a positive impact on hundreds of thousands of people globally through its community regeneration projects.

At a celebratory event at Dumfries House, The King placed the first item into The King’s Foundation’s 35th anniversary time capsule, marking the start of a year of celebrations.

Throughout its 35th year, The King’s Foundation will collect items for the time capsule which individuals feel represent the achievements and legacy of The King’s Foundation. The items will focus particularly on what inspired people to devote their time to protecting the built and natural world. Once collated, the time capsule will be buried on the Dumfries House estate and opened a hundred years from now.
