State Visit by The President and First Lady of Nigeria

The King and Queen have welcomed The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, for a State Visit to the United Kingdom.

The King and Queen host a State Visit by the President of Nigeria

The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted The President and First Lady, on behalf of The King, in Windsor on Wednesday morning.

Their Royal Highnesses travelled with The President and First Lady to Datchet Road, Windsor, where The President and First Lady received a Ceremonial Welcome.

The King and Queen formally welcomed The President and First Lady at the Royal Dais, on Datchet Road, as a Royal Salute was fired in the Home Park in Windsor, and at the Tower of London. Presentations were made, The Sovereign’s Escort gave a Royal Salute, and the Nigerian National Anthem was played.

Thereafter, The President and First Lady joined The King and Queen, and The Prince and Princess of Wales, in a carriage procession to Windsor Castle.

In the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, the carriage procession was met by a Guard of Honour found by 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards with the Royal Standard of the Regiment, with the Corps of Drums of the Battalion and the Band of the Regiment, mounted in the Quadrangle. The Guard of Honour gave a Royal Salute, and the Band played the Nigerian and British National Anthems.

The President, accompanied by The King, inspected the Guard of Honour, before rejoining The Queen and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu on the dais. Together with The Prince and Princess of Wales, they viewed The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery March Past, the Sovereign’s Escort Rank Past and the Guard of Honour March Past.

In the afternoon, Their Majesties invited The President and First Lady to view a special exhibition of items relating to Nigeria from the Royal Collection, in the Green Drawing Room.

Following this, His Majesty The King received The President for an audience at Windsor Castle, before together visiting Vicars’ Hall, Windsor, where His Majesty and The President, joined by the First Lady, met organisations who work in interfaith dialogue nationally and internationally.

Afterwards, The President and First Lady privately visited St George’s Chapel, Windsor, to lay a wreath of flowers on the Tomb of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the evening, His Majesty, accompanied by The Queen and Members of the Royal Family, gave a State Banquet at Windsor Castle for The President and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu. The King and The President both delivered speeches at the beginning of the banquet.
