The Duke of Sussex's speech at the Coach Core Awards

Published

The people ready to coach the stars of the future are right here in this room

Thank you Jake for hosting these awards, thank you apprentices, and thank you graduates.

Being a coach isn't just about helping an individual get active, or training the next person who's going to become a world record holder.

It's so much bigger than that. It's about being a role model; it's about being professional, relatable and inspiring.

One of Coach Core's great strengths is teamwork. Because of each other, you have thrived, working together to achieve something incredible.

I hope you take what you've learned here to expand your network of support and leadership for wherever you go next.

Once you graduate, it's your job to inspire the next generation after you - an ability that you all now have, whether you know it or not!

To sports clubs all over Britain, I'd like to say this: The people ready to coach the stars of the future are right here in this room.

If we invest our time, energy and money in helping their development, we will not only play our part in securing a positive future for them, but we will also encourage active communities across the country, and we will be driving Britain's sporting success for many years to come.

And I am very excited to hear that Coach Core will receive almost £1 million from Sport England, that will help strengthen the reach and impact of Coach Core over the next three years.

Sport does not discriminate. But lack of support and barriers to access do, which is why the role of Coach Core fostering this raw talent is absolutely vital.

Sport can inspire and invigorate, and as we have seen today, with the right opportunity, the right mentoring and the right focus,

lives can be changed.

Thank you all for everything that you're doing, and keep up the amazing work.

Hold onto this feeling and know the impact you're having on so many levels – just by being the best version of yourselves, you all have an incredible future ahead of you.

Good luck, have fun and thank you.
