Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic medalists were invited to a special reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate their successes from the Games.
This afternoon, Team GB, ParalymicsGB and Refuee Olympic Team medalists were brought together at Buckingham Palace to celebrate their achievements with The King, The Princess Royal and The Duchess of Gloucester.
Congratulating Team GB and teams across the entire Commonwealth on their achievements back in August, The King said:
Your achievements, across so many disciplines, were forged from that invaluable combination of raw talent, true grit and hard toil over many years, burnished these past weeks by sportsmanship and team spirit in the finest tradition of the Games.
The Princess Royal, a former Olympian herself, is President of the British Olympic Association and attended events at the Paris 2024 Games, including Rugby Sevens, Swimming, Equestrian, Rowing, Sailing and Windsurfing.
When the Paralympics came to a close in September, His Majesty said:
Behind every medal won lies a wonderful story of courage, commitment and true talent, matched by a determination that has taken you to the very top. We rejoice in your victories, while saluting and celebrating all those who have taken part, as well as thanking the support teams who play such a special part in your achievements.
The Duke of Edinburgh has supported the British Paralympic Association since visiting the Paralympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. Since becoming Royal Patron in November 2003, His Royal Highness regularly attends the Paralympic Games to support ParalympicsGB.
