A number of Royal Family members were in also attendance at the first of four garden parties held by Her Majesty this year.

The Queen, along with members of The Royal Family, has attended the first Garden Party at Buckingham Palace this year.

Several other members of The Royal Family including The Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal, Princess Beatrice of York and The Prince and Princess Michael of Kent also attended.

Around 8,000 people were invited to Her Majesty's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace – the first of three to be held here this year. A fourth Garden Party is held at Holyroodhouse in July.

Garden Parties have hosted at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s as a way to recognise and reward public service

Military bands play a selection of music throughout the afternoon, including The National Anthem at the start and end of the party.

Around 20,000 slices of cake, 20,000 sandwiches and over 27,000 cups of tea are typically served at a Garden Party.
