The Queen holds an Investiture and hosts a Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Queen marked the fifth day of her 'Holyrood Week' of engagements in Scotland with several events and audiences at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Her Majesty held an Investiture in the Great Gallery of the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the morning, honouring the achievements of people in Scotland.

Recipients at the Investiture included Professor Nancy Loucks OBE, the Chief Executive of Families Outside, who have been helping prisoners’ families in Scotland for over 20 years, offering support and information to families affected by imprisonment.

Her Majesty also held a series of private audiences, including one with the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Ken Mcintosh. The Queen met Mr Mcintosh earlier in the week as she opened the Fifth Session of the Scottish Parliament.

In the afternoon, The Queen was joined by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and The Earl of Wessex for a Garden Party in the grounds of the Palace.

Guests included Sanu and Anna Gurung, who founded the charity Bring Back the Smile to Nepal in reaction to the huge earthquake that shook Nepal in April 2015.

The Queen welcomed around 8,000 people from all walks of Scottish life to spend a relaxed afternoon with her in the beautiful grounds of the Palace, with the Party accompanied by music from regimental bands and The Royal Scottish Pipers Society.
