The Coronation Weekend

The Coronation of The King and The Queen will be marked with events across the country and a concert at Windsor Castle. Their Majesties want to encourage people to spend the Coronation Weekend celebrating with friends, families and their communities.

The Coronation Service

The Coronation of The King and The Queen took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.

The Service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and reflected the Monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

Their Majesties arrived at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’.

After the Service, Their Majesties will returned to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties were joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family.

At Buckingham Palace, The King and The Queen, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, appeared on the the Buckingham Palace balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.

The Coronation Concert

On Sunday 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert was staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios

Hosted by Hugh Bonneville and feature performances from British pop group Take That, international superstar Lionel Richie, pop icon Katy Perry and opera star Andrea Bocelli.

The concert had a world-class orchestra play a host of musical favourites and will also feature, for the first time ever, a joint performance from The Royal Ballet, The Royal Opera House, the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal College of Music and The Royal College of Art.

The Coronation Big Lunch

The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, took take place across the country on Sunday 7th May 2023

 

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Big Lunch in Windsor, while The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were in Cranleigh, Surrey.

 

 

The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence attended a community street party in Swindon, and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie of York joined a Coronation Big Lunch in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. 

 

 

The Big Help Out

On Monday 8th May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. 

In tribute to His Majesty The King's public service, The Big Help Out encouraged people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation weekend. 

There were more than 8 million opportunities to get involved on the day through the Big Help Out app - a one stop shop for volunteering opportunities across the country, and the first of its kind in the UK.
