The King visits organisations supporting the local community in Grimsby
Published
In Grimsby, His Majesty has met local leaders, organisations, businesses and residents helping to shape the future of the town and create opportunities that benefit the wider community. Throughout the day, His Majesty saw examples of the ambition, care and civic leadership within Grimsby, and met people working together to build a stronger future for the town.
At the Horizon Youth Zone, The King met young people and heard about the wide range of afterschool opportunities available which aim to build confidence and community engagement.
Opened in February 2026, the Horizon Youth Zone is a new centre, which aims to provide a safe and inspiring place for young people aged 8-19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs. The centre offers activities ranging from sports to cooking, creative and performing arts, media and employability support.
To date, the Centre has supported 3,200 young people, making it a flagship example of youth work in the region and demonstrates the importance of investing in young people who will go on to contribute to their community.
The King toured the Horizon Youth Zone, opened in February 2026, and met young people taking part in activities during a school participation session, alongside staff and the youth work team.
In the boxing ring, training kitchen, climbing wall and sports hall, The King heard from young people about opportunities provided by the centre which help them build confidence and develop practical skills through volunteering which support the local community.
Before departing, His Majesty unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit.
His Majesty then visited The CARE Hub, a community care and housing organisation designed to provide support to members of the town by providing a safe and nurturing environment.
Located in the centre of Grimsby, The CARE Hub is a free community drop-in centre operated by CARE, a long-established local charity, which opened the Hub in January 2026. The hub creates a safe environment where residents can come for a conversation whilst also providing practical support to those experiencing issues with housing, mental health, debt, domestic abuse and other crisis situations.
His Majesty met individuals who have been supported by the hub and heard about their unique approach to community support which includes creating a welcoming ‘public living room’ environment.
To end the day, The King joined an Our Future gathering with local leaders at Blundell Park, home of Grimsby Town Football Club, one of England’s oldest professional football clubs.
The King joined members of the Our Future collective: local people, organisations and institutions who have come together around a shared ambition for Grimsby and a belief that the people who live in a place are best placed to shape its future.
His Majesty heard about five ambitious ideas being explored for the future of the town, including around housing, building community leadership and urban greening.
Our Future is a national charity which works with people across Grimsby to build relationships, support leadership and create the conditions for citizen-led change.
Grimsby Town Football Club is a founding partner of the charity and has provided a trusted place for people across Grimsby to come together, build relationships and take forward shared plans for the town.
His Majesty was presented with a Grimsby Town Football Club shirt before departing.

I have vivid and happy memories of my visit to Brazil with Prince Philip in 1968, especially the warmth and hospitality of the Brazilian people.
