The Princess Royal presented a new Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service to fourteen recipients at a ceremony on Tuesday.
The Medal is awarded to those who have served or are serving in the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets who have shown exemplary service, often for an extended period of time.
Among other endeavours, recipients this year have received the award for providing operational achievement, devotion to welfare work and fundraising support to maritime charities and young seafarers.
The Princess Royal presented the medals at Trinity House, the headquarters of The Corporation of Trinity House; a charity dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers.
The Princess is Master of the The Corporation of Trinity House and has many links to the Royal Navy. She is the Admiral and Chief Commandant for Women in the Royal Navy and Commodore-in-Chief of HMNB Portsmouth.
Nominations for the 2017 awards of the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service are now open.
