The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended a reception and awards ceremony at the Royal Academy of Arts.
The Queen, Patron of the Royal Academy, presented awards to five individuals who have made a national contribution as practitioners or educators in the fields of visual arts or architecture. The awardees were nominated by five Royal Academicians, including Fashid Moussavi and Grayson Perry.
During the reception, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh met Royal Academicians, artists and supporters, as well as representatives from the Royal Academies of Dance, Dramatic Art and Music. This included Sir Rod Stewart, newly-Knighted by The Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace earlier in the day.
The Queen was also presented with a small bronze sculpture of a 900 year old oak tree in Windsor Great Park. This ancient tree symbolises both the longevity of the monarchy and the new pioneering digital technologies inspiring contemporary creativity. Each nominee was then presented with a bronze acorn from the tree by Her Majesty.
